Australian violinist Andrew Wang is currently undertaking a Master’s degree at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, with Professor Lily Francis. His studies are supported by the Henderson’s Travel Scholarship, awarded by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied under Professor Goetz Richter and the late Alice Waten.
A laureate of multiple competitions, Andrew has won the Marcus Edwards Violin Competition (2021) and the National Youth Concerto Competition (2018), performing Glazunov Violin Concerto. He was a finalist and recipient of the Joan Levy Award in the Kendall National Violin Competition in 2023. In 2024, he won the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Concerto Competition, during which he gave the NSW premiere of the original version of the Sibelius Violin Concerto. In 2025, he made his Austrian debut, playing Beethoven Violin Concerto as soloist with Hausruck Philharmonie. Andrew has been fortunate to receive masterclasses with world-class musicians, including Augustin Hadelich, Ning Feng and Charmian Gadd.
A passionate chamber musician, Andrew is a founding member of the Felix Quartet, who were the Outreach Artists at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (2023), working alongside the Goldner String Quartet. The Felix Quartet have received tutelage from Quartetto di Cremona, members of the Artemis Quartet, as well as Professors Wayne Foster-Smith, Johannes Meissl, and Silvia Simionescu. Alongside his studies and chamber music activities, Andrew regularly participates in festivals such as the Moritzburg Festival, Internationale Sommerakademie Ettal and the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival.
Andrew has a deep passion for teaching, especially for youth music programs. He was music assistant in Newington Wyvern School, North Sydney Academy of Music and was violin teacher and String Director of Ferncourt Public School. Andrew and the Felix Quartet have also provided masterclasses and workshops with schools in regional Queensland such as Townsville Grammar and Pimlico High School, in which they left a lasting impression.
