Bella Sun (Age 10) is a Year 5 student from Meriden. Bella is s a talented harpist who has won multiple prizes in competitions since beginning her harp studies with Natalie Wong just three years ago. Her musical excellence is evident across various instruments, as she is also a skilled pianist and violinist, consistently earning High Distinction in all her music grade examinations.
In 2024, Bella won the first prize in Sydney Harp Eisteddfod, the Third Prize in the Sydney Eisteddfod (Under 15, plucked strings), the second prize in the Ryde Eisteddfod (Orchestra String solo 9 and under), the cash prize in the Ryde Eisteddfod Open Age Orchestral String Solo. In 2023, Bella won First Place in the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, First Prize in the Sydney Eisteddfod (Under 12, plucked strings), two First Prizes in both her age and grade sections at the St George Eisteddfod, Third Prize in the Ryde Eisteddfod (strings 8 and under). She received Highly Commended awards in all other sections.
Bella’s dedication and passion for music drive her to seek new opportunities to enhance her experience as a well-rounded musician. In addition to her solo performances, she has played with the Meriden Chamber String Orchestra, Sydney Youth Orchestra programs, Sydney Youth Harp Ensemble, and Harp Holiday Youth Ensemble. She has also performed multiple times with the Sunshine Philharmonic Orchestra, most recently showcasing the virtuosic harp solo cadenza in Tchaikovsky's "Waltz of the Flowers" from The Nutcracker in June 2024.
For Bella, music isn't about playing every note perfectly - it's about spreading happiness. When she performs, she hopes the audience to feel the same joy that fills her heart whenever she plays.
