On 27 May 2026, we collaborated with the Theme & Variations Foundation to present pianist Joshua Han, the 2025 recipient of their award, in a concert at Master Music Studio in Glebe. As the first artist presented through this partnership, Joshua’s appearance marks our focus on creating performance opportunities for emerging artists.

The Performance

Joshua delivered a compelling and nuanced performance. He navigated a demanding program with great virtuosity, bringing clarity and depth to each work, reflecting such an intimate understanding of the music.

He described his selections as "works that are close to my heart," noting that the program explores the "evolution of classical music, from the greats of Mozart and Beethoven to the more modern and orchestral transcription works."

Program

BEETHOVEN: Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57 "Appassionata"

BACH/BUSONI: Chaconne in D Minor, BWV 1004

MOZART: Sonata No. 18 in D Major, K. 576

STRAVINSKY/AGOSTI: Firebird Suite

Supporting the Concert Listening Challenge

Beyond supporting emerging artists, we also work together to build the next generation of classical audiences. The Theme & Variations team are, in fact, among our first Concert Listening Challenge partners.

We encourage you to visit Theme & Variations Piano Services showroom at 451 Willoughby Rd to collect your Challenge card, explore their range of pianos, and chat with their friendly expert team. You can also redeem the rewards you collect throughout the program.

Our goal with the Challenge is to help children and families make classical music a regular part of their lives, with a target of attending 15 concerts within a year. By fostering this habit, we hope to see more families engaged with the local music scene and contribute to the growth of the industry we love.
