Over the weekend of 5-6 July, Concerts for All had the wonderful opportunity to be part of The Metropolitan Orchestra’s (TMO) concerts of Peter and the Wolf at the Sydney's heritage-listed Petersham Town Hall. We extend our warmest thanks to the entire TMO team for their generous partnership and for creating an enchanting atmosphere of musical discovery.

TMO’s performance of Peter and the Wolf took the audience on a captivating musical journey. As one of the most beloved children's concerts of all time, Prokofiev's timeless story is designed to both enchant and educate. The orchestra masterfully introduced each instrument as it gave voice to a character—from Peter and his grandfather to the bird, the duck, and the big, bad wolf. A sense of wonder filled the hall as children could see and hear the story unfold through the music.
A Shared Mission to Foster a Listening Habit
Concert Listening Challenge and Accessible Concerts
That excitement spilled out from the concert hall into the foyer afterwards. It was a joy to see young listeners, enlivened by the music, happily interacting with our instrument cut-outs and discovering the Concert Listening Challenge. One parent’s comment perfectly captured the enthusiasm: "The target is 15 concerts in a year! I love the idea!" she remarked, before chatting about the program with Concerts for All director, Yichao Ma.
TMO's commitment to creating a welcoming and interactive concert environment with their Cushion Concerts is so closely aligned with the spirit of our own Young Maestros Community Concerts. Their approach helps to demystify the concert hall experience and encourages a regular concert-going habit—a goal that perfectly mirrors that of our Concert Listening Challenge. It’s a wonderful match.
