Last Concert of 2025: Bringing Festive Cheer to the QVB

With the holidays fast approaching, shopping centres are abuzz with patrons eager to buy presents for loved ones. In the spirit of gift-giving, Concerts for All held a free Christmas concert at the QVB on the 18th of December 2025 as a way to delight the public during this season .

The afternoon kicked off with an invitation to sing along classic Christmas carols such as Silent Night, We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Jingle Bells played on the piano by director Yichao Ma. Although many adults in the crowd were hesitant singers, children unabashedly danced along to the Christmas tunes, which was such a joy to see!

The official concert program began with marimbist Justin Gao, whose energetic rendition of Golovko’s Colombian Marimba Concerto alongside pianist Christopher Malek immediately captured the lively spirit of celebration. Soon after this performance, our signature music trivia section took place and was received with utmost enthusiasm from the audience, with multiple children taking home little Christmas trinkets.

The program continued with two performances from Ian Yan (violin) together with pianist Lili Chang, who balanced the playful intricacies of Paganini’s Caprice for Solo Violin Op. 1 No. 13 with the soaring, spiritual warmth of O Holy Night.

A wave of nostalgia followed with guest pianist Paula Lu’s touching piano mashup of I'll be Home for Christmas and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, inviting everyone into a cozy, shared moment of holiday comfort. Adding a sense of romantic grandeur to the occasion, Christopher Malek performed the sweeping melodies of Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu, highlighting feelings of wonder often associated with Christmastime.

Finally, The Piccolos, comprising Bennett So (piano), Elizabeth Luiskandl (violin), Hannah Tsai (viola), and Franco Fan (cello), brought the event to a harmonious close with Schumann’s Piano Quartet in Eb Major, Op. 47 1st Movement, their collaborative unity perfectly reflecting the season's themes of togetherness and joy.

Once again, we are so grateful to all of the performers who shared their music with us, and we extend a special thanks to Jared Byrne, Guest Experience Manager at the QVB, for helping us host these concerts.

We will all see you in the new year—but for now:
