Kicking off 2026 with our 3rd QVB Classical Pop-Up Concert

We started 2026 with our third Classical Pop-Up Concert at the QVB, continuing our mission to provide performance opportunities and accessible classical music events throughout Sydney. The concert took place on Saturday, January 24th, beginning with introductions by Christopher Malek (Board member, CFA) and Jared Byrne (Guest Experience Manager, QVB). Chris then kicked off the event with our signature music trivia, giving musical prizes to attendees who could correctly identify the title and composer of the pieces he played.

The concert program featuring 10 performers

The concert featured 10 performers, each introduced by Jared to the eager crowd. This program, featuring the piano, violin and cello, was a vibrant and ambitious opening to our 2026 concert season, immediately engaging the public through inspiring musical performances and technical brilliance.

The concert commenced with Raphael Jonah Tan’s performance of Ren Guang's Silver Clouds Chasing The Moon. Its shimmering, folk-inspired flowed seamlessly into the timeless, romantic warmth of Kathy Piao’s interpretation of Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat Major.

The atmospher in the halls of the QVB quickly intensified as Daisy Hu, Léanore Gillet, and Allen Lu beautifully presented the varied program, transitioning from the delicate precision of Ravel's Sonatina in F-sharp Minor, to the fiery virtuosity of Liszt's Etude en douze exercises, and the intense, Bach-inspired drama of Ysaÿe’s Obsession.

This momentum was sustained by Alexander Liu, Emma Rose Koeswandy, and Isabella Guo, whose captivating performances of Bortkiewicz, Haydn, Beethoven, and Chopin's Black Keys Etude brought a palpable sense of joy to the stage.

The final performance was an duet between Alana Gao and Deron Yip in Zilcher’s Duet for Violin and Cello. Their emotive and touching interpretation concluded the afternoon. Watch their performance below:

Every Concert Enriches Our Community

Once again, we are so grateful to all of the performers who shared their music with us, and we extend a special thanks to Jared Byrne, Guest Experience Manager at the QVB, for helping us host these concerts.
